As of July 15, 2020, Nash Community College has awarded 535 students in the amount of $394,271.

June 10, 2020

Nash Community College signed and submitted the Certification and Agreement to the US Department of Education on April 27, 2020. The college received a Grant Award Notification from the US Department of Education on May 12, 2020. Under Section 18004(a)(1) of the CARES act, the college was allocated $1,299,061.  As part of the Certification and Agreement, Nash Community College intends to use no less than 50% of the funds received to provide Emergency Financial Aid Grants to students.

The estimated number of students eligible to participate in programs under Section 484 in Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965 is 1,094. After removing students that were enrolled in all online classes in the Spring 2020 semester, Nash Community College determined that approximately 800 students would be eligible for Emergency Financial Aid Grants. Based on the estimated number of eligible students, the college allocated funds based on EFC and enrollment status.

On May 22, 2020, an email was sent to all students with the qualifications and instructions on the application process for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF).  A reminder email was sent to all students on June 1, 2020.

As of June 8, 2020, Nash Community College has awarded 442 students in the amount of $332,891.

As part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, Nash Community College has received funding to assist students affected by the disruption of campus activities due to COVID-19.

In order to qualify for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) emergency grant funding, a student must have completed the 2019-2020 FAFSA application and be eligible for Title IV funding as defined by Section 484 of the Higher Education Act. In addition to a completed FAFSA application, the following criteria apply:

• The student must have been enrolled in the Spring 2020 semester in at least one face-to-face class before the disruption of campus activities.
• The student must be in a program eligible for Title IV funding

Students must complete the CARES Act Emergency Grant application that is available on WebAdvisor under student forms. Students must attest that their need is related to the disruption of campus operations due to COVID-19 and falls into an eligible category of expenses.

Awards range from $125 to $1,000 and are based on EFC (Expected Family Contribution) and Spring 2020 enrollment status. The allocation of funding is referenced in the table below.

Nash Community College will disburse funds using Heartland/ESCI using the student’s selected disbursement methods. If your selected disbursement method is a paper check, please review your mailing address on WebAdvisor and update as needed.

These funds will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. Nash Community College anticipates the first disbursement of CARES Act funding to be disbursed by June 10, 2020.
