NCC SkillsUSA Earns Gold Chapter of Distinction

Having met all prior distinction levels, the Nash Community College SkillsUSA Chapter has been awarded the Gold Chapter of Distinction by SkillsUSA for the third consecutive year. The College is one of two community colleges in North Carolina to hold this level of distinction. The North Carolina SkillsUSA chapter also designated NCC as a 100 Club chapter, having over 100 members.

Another distinction is being a Total Participation Program (TPP), which is made up of students enrolled in Computer Engineering Technology, Cosmetology, Electronic Engineering Technology, Industrial Systems, Automotive, Culinary, Medical Assisting, Computer-Integrated Machining, Welding, Criminal Justice, IT – Networking, and Advertising and Graphic Design programs.

The College determines which curriculum programs join the TPP Chapter, which allows students to enjoy the benefits of the club without having to burden the students with the cost of membership.

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. Nash Community College’s chapter was chartered during the Spring 2017 Semester signifying the partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to promote a highly skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel by providing educational programs, leadership opportunities, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE).

One of the most important aspects of SkillsUSA is promoting soft skills in the classroom with the use of the SkillsUSA Framework. The SkillsUSA Framework is nationally identified soft skills that consist of personal, workplace, and technical skills grounded in academics.
