NCC Instructor Recognized with 40 Under 40 Leadership Award

Lashaunda Lucas

Nash Community College instructor Lashaunda Lucas was recently selected as a recipient of East Carolina University’s 40 under 40 Leadership Award. Awardees are selected for this honor based on their impact in business, research, artistic, leadership, community, educational and/or philanthropic endeavors.

Lashaunda Lucas has been a social work instructor in the Humanities & Social Sciences department since 2015 teaching Introduction to Social Work, Working with Diversity, Group Process 1 and Human Services Issues. She serves full-time as a Child Welfare Trainer at Wake County Human Services and is also a part-time Assistant Professor at Shaw University.

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker,  Lucas has served as an outpatient therapist for youth and families involved with the Department of Juvenile Justice, persons with mental health diagnoses, and in foster care and adoption. She is the chair of Wake County Human Services’ Racial Equity Change Team.

Lucas received her Bachelor of Social Work in 2010 and her Master of Social Work in 2011, both at East Carolina University. She is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Social Work at UNC-Greensboro and NC A&T University.
