NCC Announces New Small Business Center Director
Derrick Armstead
Nash Community College has named Derrick Armstead as its Small Business Center Director, effective July 18, 2022.
Armstead served in the United States Marine Corps as a Corporal / E-4 based in Camp Lejeune, NC. In his position as telephone technician, he traveled to Japan, South Korea, Norway and Mexico and was honored with the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Award. Armstead was honorably discharged following four years of service.
Prior to joining the college, Armstead served as the Small Business Center Director at Roanoke-Chowan Community College where he was responsible for managing the center’s services and activities, including one-on-one counseling for new, existing or prospective business owners.
In his role at Roanoke-Chowan Community College, Armstead was selected to participate in North Carolina Rural Center’s Homegrown Leaders program. The three-day regional leadership and community economic development training equips existing and emerging leaders with the skills needed to lead long-term economic advancement in their community and region.
“We are proud to have Mr. Armstead join Team Nash in the Continuing Education Department,” Dean, Carla Dunston, said. “The NCC Small Business Center provides vital services in the community to ensure we meet the needs of area businesses. With his experience, Mr. Armstead will provide a unique perspective as we support business owners.”
Armstead served previously as the Employment Consultant at NC Works Career Center, a Legal Assistant at the office of Melissa L. Skinner Attorney at Law, an Adult Medicaid Unit Income Maintenance Caseworker at the Pasquotank County Department of Social Services, Healthcare Law Litigation Paralegal at Lawson & Weitzen, LLP, and Legal Compliance Officer at the Division of Capital Asset Management.
Armstead holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from North Carolina Central University and is a Master of Business Administration degree candidate at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. He is a resident of Edenton, NC.
