Nursing Student Wins Full Scholarship to Attend NCC

Nash Community College Associate Degree Nursing student Shona Best is the winner of a scholarship to cover her tuition, fees and books in full for the spring semester. Best’s name was drawn randomly from all of the individuals who enrolled for the spring semester during the college’s Priority Enrollment Week in October. Another winner will be selected among the students who register for spring semester by December 1, 2022.

“Winning this scholarship means a lot to me,” she said. “Nursing school is very rigorous and there are times when you want to give up, but finding out about winning it reignited the fire I had in myself. It made me push harder to be able to get to the next semester so I will be able to make use of the scholarship.”

A native of Wilson County, Shona Best is a graduate of Beddingfield High School and lives in Black Creek, NC. “I chose NCC because of the great things I heard about the teachers here,” she said. “My experience with NCC so far has been excellent. The employees are always approachable and ready to help. I appreciate the lengths that the school goes to ensure that all its students feel included and to have so many resources available.”

As an incentive to confirm and secure their schedules early, and in order to set new and returning students up for success, all students who enrolled between 12:01 AM EST on October 24, 2022 and 11:59 PM EST on Friday, October 28, 2022 were entered for a chance to win the full scholarship. Best was selected during the drawing held Monday, October 31, 2022.

“I want to be a nurse because of my mom. She inspires me with the way she takes care of people. You never know when it might be you in the hospital bed. I always strive to become the nurse that I would want to take care of my mom.”
