New Telecommunicators Prepare for Careers at Local Agencies

New personnel from local law enforcement agencies completed the Telecommunicator Certification Course at Nash Community College on Monday, December 12, 2022. These telecommunicators have the critical role of answering emergency calls and communicating critical information between first responders and community members during emergency situations.

Each student successfully completed nine blocks of instruction and all practical skills evaluations, and passed the exam administered by North Carolina Sheriffs’ Training and Standards. They are now eligible to obtain state certification as telecommunicators.

This 50-hour course, governed by the North Carolina Sheriffs’ Education and Training Standards Commission, is designed to provide students the knowledge, skills, and materials necessary for obtaining North Carolina State Certification to work as a professional telecommunicator.

Congratulations to the following telecommunicators pictured from left: Michelle Hedgepeth, Rocky Mount Police Department; Victoria Dickens, Rocky Mount Police Department; Alexandra Celeste Tino, Tarboro Police Department; with Director Wayne Lamm.
