NCC Announces 2023 Commencement Speaker

Nash Community College has announced Dr. LaToya McCurdy will deliver its 2023 spring commencement address. The college will hold a nurses’ pinning ceremony on Thursday, May 11 and drive through and traditional graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 12.

A Rocky Mount native, Dr. McCurdy attended Rocky Mount High School and Nash Community College as a dual-enrolled high school student. She graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing from Nash Community College. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Chamberlain College, a Master of Science in Nursing in Family Nurse Practice from George Washington University and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from East Carolina University.

McCurdy practices family medicine at NEWH Regional Medical Center, PLLC. She opened the practice in 2022 providing primary care services for patients ages seven years and older in Nash, Edgecombe, Wilson, and Halifax (NEWH) counties. She also owns NUTRADRiP IV Hydration and Wellness Clinic, PLLC, an IV hydration and wellness practice in Rocky Mount. McCurdy serves as adjunct faculty at North Carolina Wesleyan University.

Her prior career experience includes primary care, family and internal medicine, acute care, long-term acute care, pulmonary critical care and long-term care practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Eastern NC Medical Group. In her role, she was recognized by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for her contributions, dedication and commitment to the nursing profession during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Dr. McCurdy’s accomplishments as a lifelong learner demonstrate her passion for service to others through her care and commitment to community health,” Dr. Jay Sullivan, NCC Provost and Chief Academic Officer, said. “Her hard work, determination and perseverance will undoubtedly inspire our graduates as they launch into the next step of their journey.”

Nash Community College President Dr. Lew Hunnicutt and Board of Trustees Chair Katherine Wiggins Fisher will preside over the ceremonies.
