She has had a unique journey at NCC that began as a student and has been one of resilience and determination.

“Balancing the demands of parenthood with the rigors of academic life was a formidable challenge, particularly in light of my financial struggles,” expressed. “The Single Stop – Wellness Center became an invaluable resource in my journey. The center provided a sanctuary where I could find support and resources tailored to my unique challenges.”

The Staff Award is an annual award recognizing the outstanding work ethic of a non-instructional employee at NCC. J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore of Rocky Mount established the NCC Staff Award in 2004, acknowledging the recipient’s achievement. The Moore’s were longtime friends of the college, also providing support for the Excellence in Teaching Award. 1998, they established the NCC J. Edgar and Peggie T. Moore Faculty Senate Scholarship.

Her peer nomination shared, “In the spirit of Blue Love, Cheska is vital to the NCC’s loving and inclusive culture. Cheska has played a pivotal role in following the college’s mission positively, ensuring alignment with the values of inclusivity and accessibility.”
