Nash Community College to Welcome New Student Services Leader

Nash Community College is excited to welcome Dr. Levy Brown, a visionary and strategic-thinker, as the new Vice President of Student Services.

“Team Nash is very excited to have Dr. Brown back in North Carolina, but more importantly at NCC,” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president of NCC. “His easy-going nature and leadership style will propel Student Services to new heights.”

In this role, Dr. Brown will oversee the Student Enrollment Services and the Success Network and set direction for Student Services programs and activities. This includes student recruitment, enrollment management, admissions, financial aid and veterans’ affairs, registration and records, orientation, advising services, retention, student activities and organizations, counseling, career development and Title IX.

“Nash CC has a storied reputation of innovation around holistic student support, student success and other areas,” said Dr. Brown. “That is exciting and I look forward to partnering with the team to continue elevating the exciting work that is taking place in student services. Our students will experience success as a result.”

Joining NCC from Connecticut State Community College, Dr. Brown will start the role on June 3 and is excited about the opportunity ahead.

“As a first-generation college student, I recall how challenging it was to navigate the college environment,” said Dr. Brown. “My experiences continue to motivate me to think deeply about creating an environment that fosters success for students both inside and outside of the classroom.”

Dr. Brown has worked throughout the field of student and academic affairs in his career and brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the role.

“Dr. Brown has joined an incredible team, Team Nash, and I hope he will have a very long and successful stay at our college,” said Dr. Hunnicutt. “I very much look forward to working with him.”

He started in the Division of Academic Affairs at East Carolina University (ECU) as a Web Coordinator. He went on to start on a more hands on approach in admissions and student affairs spending sometime in the admissions office at ECU. From then he has served in multiple leadership roles across student and academic affairs within the North Carolina Community College System. He also served as the Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer for the North Carolina Community College System.

He holds a Doctorate of Education from ECU, with a focus in Higher Education Administration. Dr. Brown also received his Master of Library Science from North Carolina Central University and a Bachelor of Science in Communication from ECU.

In 2016, Dr. Brown he received the 40 Under 40 Alumni Leadership Award from ECU. He is a 2019 Thomas Lakin Fellow through the Chief Executive Officer Training Program – President’s Round Table with the National Council on Black American Affairs – American Association of Community Colleges. In 2021-2022, he served as a fellow in the Aspen Rising Presidents program through the Aspen Institute.

“I am incredibly humbled to have an opportunity to lead and collaborate to enhance the overall student experience,” said Dr. Brown. “Further, I am excited to build strong partnerships, foster innovation, engage with students, faculty, and staff and grow enrollment at NCC.”
