NCC Announces Naming of Benvenue Hall

DSC_0008The Nash Community College Board of Trustees recently approved the naming of Benvenue Hall in Building B. This historical legacy honors Benvenue High School and the hundreds of students who grew in their studies along with some exceptional teachers. In 1967, Benvenue High School served as the original campus of Nash Technical Institute. Longtime NCC supporter Charles Johnson was instrumental in securing the naming rights and to honor his Class of 1938 in particular classmate Vivian W. Viverette. Both of these individuals were involved in establishing the Benvenue Alumni Association Scholarship Fund awarded to two NCC students each fall.

The scholarship fund reflects the Alumni Association’s commitment to education and their belief in preparing the citizens for the world of work in the Nash/Rocky Mount area. In addition to the naming, a plaque will be displayed inside Benvenue Hall commemorating its historical significance, along with a glass showcase exhibiting memorabilia.

Each year, priority consideration is given for the Benvenue Alumni Association Scholarship to full-time students with financial need whose immediate family attended Benvenue High School. The recipient should have at least a 2.5 grade point average and demonstrate potential for success. There is no restriction to program of study. The application is available online at www.nashcc.edu/scholarshipapp. The deadline to apply is March 15.

For more information regarding the Benvenue Alumni Association Scholarship, please contact NCC Foundation Executive Director Pat Daniels at 451-8329 or pdaniels@nashcc.edu.
