Medical Doctor Named 2016 NCC Outstanding Alumnus

At the 2016 Student Recognition Ceremony held April 21st, Nash Community College (NCC) honored Saed Awadallah, M.D. with the 2016 Nash Community College Outstanding Alumni Award recognizing his achievements as a past graduate to provide inspiration for current students. Dr. Awadallah was selected for the College’s highest alumni honor for his contributions to the medical field as a physician, his excellence in leadership and service, and dedication as a lifelong learner.

Awadallah graduated from Nash Community College with honors in 2005 with Associate in Science and Associate in Arts degrees. He currently serves as a resident physician of internal medicine at Vidant Medical Center and will begin his fellowship in pulmonary/critical care at Vidant later this year.

“I was only an 18 year old boy with big dreams of becoming a physician,” Awadallah shared of his experience attending Nash. “I was very lucky to start at Nash Community College. I had great passionate instructors who gave me the knowledge and skills that allowed me to succeed. I had a lot of great advisors who gave me the guidance and saw the potential in me to succeed.”

After graduating from Nash, Awadallah transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with honors in 2007. He graduated from Saint Georges Medical School as a Medical Doctor in 2013 and in June 2016 will complete his residency in Internal Medicine at Vidant Medical Center through the East Carolina University School of Medicine where he was also awarded 2015 Best Senior Resident of the Year in intensive care unit. “Without the family of Nash Community College, I would not be standing here with you today,” Awadallah told the audience at the Student Recognition Ceremony.

Dr. Awadallah has family in Rocky Mount, many of whom are NCC alumni, including two nephews enrolled at the Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School located on the College’s campus. He and his wife, Ruba, live in Greenville.

“Dr. Awadallah exemplifies why people choose Nash,” President Dr. Bill Carver said. “His accomplishments are a great testimony to both his grit and intellectual ability. He took several history classes with me, and was one of the best and most insightful students I have had in my time at Nash Community College,” Associate Vice President of Instruction Mike Latham shared.
