NCC Professor Leads Sumo Bot Tournament Challenge

ECHS – Sumobot Challenge

Nash-Rocky Mount Early College High School STEM classes recently participated in a sumo bot tournament challenge where pairs of students programmed LEGO Mindstorm robots. During the activities facilitated by Professor Reggie Cobb, Biology professor at Nash Community College, students learned basic programming to make the robots perform specific tasks. Students learned how to control the motors and sensors attached to the robot. Angelique Showman and Meagan Leas, Early College teachers, assisted with the activities.

Professor Cobb also facilitates STEM activities in other local schools and is the instructor of several Summer Youth Camps at Nash Community College, which include LEGO Simple and Motorized Mechanisms, Lego Robotics, Environmental Minecraft, and a general STEM camp where students perform dissections, use microscopes, build bridges and roller coasters, and go fishing while studying animal population estimates.
