Electric Line Construction Technology Hosts Virtual Meeting with Duke Energy

Tiffany McNeill, Duke Energy Senior Workforce Development Consultant

Nash Community College Electric Line Construction Technology students recently took part in a virtual “Brunch-n-Learn” with Duke Energy Senior Workforce Development Consultant Tiffany McNeill. Typically, “Lunch N Learn” sessions are held in person throughout the semester, but due to COVID-19 a virtual format has been implemented to ensure social distancing.

During the chat, students learned about Duke Energy’s interview process and the S.T.A.R. (Situation, Task, Action, Result) interview technique. Using this technique candidates must describe an event or situation, explain a task completed, describe specific actions taken to complete a task, and provide the results of their efforts. The multi-step evaluation also includes Construction and Skilled Trades testing and a Physical Abilities Test.

Headquartered in Charlotte, Duke Energy provides electricity to 7.2 million retail customers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Transmission Aid, Line Tech Learner, Transmission Maintenance, or Gas Technician are a few of the positions interested students could consider applying for.

The Nash Community College Electric Line Construction Technology program prepares students for line construction careers in a variety of settings. Students become proficient in topics and processes related to electricity, overhead pole and electrical line construction, safety codes and applications, electric power systems, transformer installations, and more. Students in the program earn OSHA, CDL and CPR certifications during training.
