First Vet Tech Cohort Graduates from NCC

Nash Community College has announced its first graduating class of the Veterinary Medical Technology program.

Coursework in the Vet Tech program began in 2017 in response to workforce needs expressed by the local veterinary community. Students officially entered the college’s first cohort of the Associate in Applied Science degree program in 2018.

“This inaugural class represents a huge investment in time and resources for all involved,” Department Chair for Allied Health Nancy Worsinger said. “I congratulate the graduates and the faculty for this great achievement. Thank you to the college administration, our community partners, the faculty and the graduates for their hard work, dedication and flexibility during this process.”

The program curriculum is designed to prepare students to assist veterinarians in preparing animals for examination and surgery as vet techs. Some tasks include collecting specimens; performing laboratory, radiographic, anesthetic and dental procedures; assisting in surgery; and providing proper care for animals and their environment.

Vet Tech coursework focuses on anatomy, nutrition, parasitology, pathology, physiology, radiology, terminology, zoology, office practices, laboratory techniques, dentistry, and small and large animal clinical practices.

NCC students learn practical skills in the college’s modern, spacious training environment that allows for all on-campus clinical training and animal care to be self-contained.

The program is accredited by the Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) as a program for educating veterinary technicians.
