Dr. Carl G. Purvis Memorial Scholarship Endowed at NCC
The Nash Community College Foundation has announced the recent establishment of an endowed scholarship, the Dr. Carl G. Purvis Memorial Scholarship, by his wife, Kathleen K. Purvis and family members.
“This scholarship reflects our families’ desire to honor the memory of Carl, who practiced podiatry in our home of Rocky Mount for many years,” said Purvis. “The criteria for enrolling in a vocational or technical program comes from his love of promoting vocational studies.”
The endowed scholarship is based on a $30,000 gift that will recognize students enrolled in vocational programs at NCC. Half of the gift will be used to award over $5,000 per year for three years.
“Similar to other endowed scholarships, the remainder of the gift will be used to accrue interest, providing us the ability to continue to award the scholarship in the future and continue to make an impact on many nighthawks to come,” said Pam Ballew, vice president of institutional advancement at NCC.
Upon registration for the fall and spring semesters, the scholarship will be awarded to the student recipients in equal increments. If said student has enrolled in a shortened program of study, then appropriate adjustments can be made.
