Nash Community College Announces New Chief Academic Officer

Dr. Amy Harrell, Dean of Research and Institutional Effectiveness, assumed her new role of Chief Academic Officer for Nash Community College on Oct 2.

“Dr. Harrell more than has the talent and skill to hit the ground running,” said Dr. Lew K. Hunnicutt, president at NCC. “As a long tenured member of NCC, she has the institutional knowledge and drive to be highly successful.”

In the role, Dr. Harrell will oversee assigned credit and non-credit instructional programs, related services, and operations, including oversight of North Carolina Community College System program approvals, accreditation and approvals, and coordination of Perkins grant and professional development opportunities.

“I am honored by the opportunity to serve NCC in this new capacity,” said Dr. Harrell. “I look forward to working collaboratively across the institution to provide the highest quality of instruction and support for our students and community.”

Dr. Harrell has worked at NCC and has been in higher education since 2001. Before NCC, she worked with juvenile and social services in multiple roles. She has served at NCC in various capacities, including an Instructor of Immured Education, Director of Curriculum Projects, Department Chair of Business Technologies, Professor of Criminal Justice, and substantial work in institutional research and effectiveness, as her current role, including oversight for SACSCOC accreditation implementation.

She holds a Doctorate of Education from East Carolina University, with a focus in Educational Leadership. Dr. Harrell also received her Master of Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Science in Applied Sociology from North Carolina State University.
